The royal botanic gardens are located between Hyde park and the Sydney Opera House. Inside the gardens, which were founded by Governor Macquarie in 1816, are a large number of plant and tree species. Colonies of fruit bats and sulphur crested cockatoos live on the trees in the gardens.
